Ok, so I saw Sick Fix the other night at the Talking Head here in Baltimore as part of the Charm City Artspace Benefit show. I haven't seen them in over a year and I have to say....DAMN!!!
If you don't know who they are, it's 3 dudes on instruments, (some ex-IxObject and Black SS, I think) and a girl singing. Now, when I say singing, I should say invoking the demons of hell and all things unholy, but edge worthy. Michelle, their singer has a voice that makes her a cross between Infest and a female Mike Judge. NO JOKE!
The music is kind of like that as well, though recently they have added more doom parts and crushing breakdowns. It's so powerful live and Michelle will say whatever the fuck she wants and tell you how it is, which is refreshing to me. In an age of hardcore bands that have nothing to say but, "we have merch in the back, pick some up," she brings back theh days of long Ray Cappo rants or even better, Ian Macaye stories and anecdotes from the Minor Threat days.
The songs deal with things like sexism, body identity issues, ignorance and of course straight edge. If you haven't picked it up already, they have an EP out on Third Party records and their myspace is
www.myspace.com/sickfix. Also pick up a sweet longsleeve and if they play your town, GO SEE THEM!!!
